Monolithic Dome Institute MembershipListings:
Thirty years ago, as of April 2006, we built the first Monolithic Dome. Just browse through this website to see how far we have come. Members of the Monolithic Dome community have now built thousands of domes across the world. Our database shows domes in 48 states and 40 countries. The Monolithic Dome Builders Association voted in February 2006 to dissolve. The association has moved back under the umbrella of the Monolithic Dome Institute (MDI). MDI is part of Monolithic, which is a family of companies sharing a mutual goal: to improve the lives of people worldwide through the introduction and construction of Monolithic Domes and EcoShells, for personal and public use, that are superior in strength, energy-efficiency and cost control. There is no way any one company or even a small group of companies can build all of the structures needed on this growing planet. The hope is by teaching and training and promoting more builders, we all will grow. In the future we hope the MDI will be able to assist help keep costs low for projects in emerging countries. We hear a lot of talk these days about sustainable development. Monolithic Domes and Ecoshells are THE answer for housing shortages in many parts of the world. We also hope to offer "master classes" for builders and condensed versions of our workshops in more parts of the country. We will continue to grow our databases of construction and design tips; comparables for appraisals; and other important dome-related materials. And eventually setup a system of checks and balances to assess a member builder or professional. By becoming a member, participating in our events, filling out surveys and keeping us appraised of what's going on in your community or your businesses, you can help to make the Monolithic Dome Institute a force for good. We have set up two levels of members:Full Members ($50 per year):
Associate Members ($25 per year):
Both memberships are eligible to use and display that they are a “Member of the Monolithic Dome Institute” on letterheads, cards, and literature. (This is not the Monolithic Logo.) We will have a special logo made for MDI members. We are asking members who have had a part in the past to donate their papers to the Institute. This will be past engineers, builders, promoters, designers, etc. The idea is to make a library. On this website we already have many thesis available. We need more information to share. For example, we are fitting a large dome with strain gages. We expect the information gathered to be of great interest to the Monolithic engineers and members and we will share it freely. Those that return the forms with membership dues will be left on the MDI website (formerly Domebuilders.com). Those that do not will be removed. Memberships must be renewed annually. Membership dues will be from Jan 1 to December 31st.
