Santa
and the Dome
by Jamie Lynne South
Inspired by the Cartoon by Merrisa Carter
Twas
the night before Christmas and all through the dome, not a creature
was stirring 'cuz no one was home.
The
children were nestled all snug in the car with visions of candy
from lands near and far.
Mom
checked the list and Dad did the driving and nearer our doorstep
our car was arriving.
We
were desperate for dinner, some gas and a rest, when we finally
stopped at our dome on the crest.
When
all of a sudden there arose such a clatter, we sprang from the car
to see what was the matter.
Away
to the dome we flew in a fright, leaped over the car and then threw
on the light.
When
what to our wondering eyes should appear but a sled and some reindeer
just trembling in fear.
With
Santa on one side and Rudolf on the other, I wish you could've seen
the look on my Mother!
"What
is this contraption?" Santa shouted at Dad. (And unless I'm
mistaken, he looked rather mad.)
"It's
a Dome!" cried my Dad, disregarding convention, then he told
Mr. Santa 'bout his orb-like invention.
"This
Dome's quite unique, it heats and it cools! It will save people
money, it's safe! It just rules!
It
offers protection when winds start to blow, this dome will still
stand no matter how much it snows.
And
when six hundred eighty-five years have gone by my Dome will still
be here! It just will not die!"
Santa
was pleased and he ordered a Dome, and Dad helped get Rudolf down
safe off our home.
Then
they left our dear Dome and seemed brimming with glee, they even
left Dad and the rest of us cheese.
And
we heard him exclaim as he flew out of sight, "Build a Dome!
and Find out David South is quite right!"
