A Tour of Monolithic Dome Storages

Controlled Atmosphere Apple Storage - Calamco Cold Storage, Stockton, CA. Each dome, 230 feet in diameter and 115 feet high, was built for the California Ammonia Co. (CALAMCO). Each dome is big enough to hold 600 semi-truck loads of apples.

These storages have their oxygen removed and replaced with nitrogen. This keeps the apple "asleep" until time to ship.
