Monolithic Oil Tanks -- Water Tanks -- Ethanol Tanks – Other LiquidsMay 13, 2008 by David B. South Monolithic Oil Tanks are far more competitive than ever. The much higher price of steel and the technology of using high strength post tension cables allow for Monolithic Tanks to be less costly. #1 They do not rust – the life span is enormous – centuries. #3 They can not be burned. This provides protection to plant workers and nearby residents. #2 They do not blow away in a storm – providing environmental protection. A 250,000 barrel (10.5 milllion gallon) oil storage tank sells for approximately five million dollars. (2007 dollars). New chemical coatings are key. One of these coatings is polyurea -- more popularly known as a pickup truck bed-liner, such as Rhino or Sharkskin. Many of the formulations for such coatings are totally impervious to attack by most chemicals. Some vegetable oils and some crude oils must be stored warm so that they remain pump-able. The Monolithic Oil Tank's polyurethane foam insulation makes it an ideal warm oil storage structure. For nearly thirty years, Monolithic has known how to build concrete water tanks. Our air-formed concrete water tank has many advantages; a primary one is price; Monolithic water tanks cost less money. Dr Wilson, Monolithic's senior consulting engineer, has always encouraged us to build water tanks. He has proved that they are very viable and cost- efficient. However, we had other markets to pursue, so we elected not to pursue this one. But, NOW is the time to do so. Our investigative process includes asking for your help. If you are in the business of storing oil, please email me at president@monolithic.com with your comments, ideas or suggestions. I would greatly appreciate it. Related Links: |
