A Dome With Wings

While it can't fly, Lake Christian Church in Palmyra, Virginia is a Monolithic Dome sanctuary with wings.
The sanctuary's 104-foot diameter encompasses an area used mainly for religious services that can be easily converted into a multipurpose room, since its seating is movable. It also features a balcony with seating overlooking the central area and classrooms under it.
The three wings attached to the dome provide space for classrooms, Sunday School and administrative offices. In total, the facility includes approximately 16,000 square feet.
David Marshall of Tailored Properties of Virginia, Inc., the general contractor for this project, used heat welding to connect the wings to the dome. He said, "The roofing material we used on the wings is compatible to the membrane of the dome skin (the Airform), so we heat welded them together. The two products bond together perfectly. We also counter flashed with extra material from the Airform to prevent leaks."
