Description: Our dome is a 40 foot diameter by 16 ft. tall oblate elipsoid that has approx. 1256 sq. ft. on one level. It is a one bedroom, 2 baths with an office, utility room, mechanical room, living/dining area. It was built as our retirement home and was designed to be wheelchair accessible. It is attached to a 28' diameter by 13' tall garage dome that has been partitioned off to provide two rooms for all of our cats and dogs as well an area to park one car. We also added a conventionally built enclosure on the back of the garage to provide outside runs for the animals. It is heated with radiant floor heat and cooled with two small window unit air conditioners. The structures are complete but landscaping is not quite done. By the time of the tour all our trees should be in but the yard probably won't have much grass.

Directions: Drive North or South on Hwy 75 to Exit #69. Go West on Hwy 120 and drive 5 miles until road forks. Stay in Left side of fork and drive another 5 miles on Hwy 996 until you come to Locust Road. Turn Left on Locust Road and drive 2 miles until you see Exxon Station. Turn Right and drive one mile until you see a long gravel driveway with a white iron gate on Left. (gate is open). Drive down gravel driveway just a few feet and see Dome on Right.

Description: Two bedroom, 2 1/2 bath, office; 2nd floor/loft constructed out of local red cedar lumber; extensive paneling done from red cedar slabs; loft looks out onto great room. Kitchen cabinets and millwork is native Texas pecan wood with red cedar accents. Unique breakfast bar with 2" thick red cedar and glass blocks; use of glass blocks in dome for light in three exterior openings. Loft framing is open and floor is all 1x6 red cedar. All loft framing lumber and panel slabs are planed and finished since it is exposed. This home is a 2100-square-feet multistory, 45' dome.

Directions: From Dallas, TX, go north on US 75 (Central Expressway) to Exit 45 - SH 121 to Bonham. Go about 18 miles and turn left at SH 160 (4th traffic light from US 75). Go north 3 miles and turn right on FM 814 towards Trenton. Go about one mile. The road makes a curve to the north, and as it turns to the east, after the third arrow, turn left on a gravel road, Fannin County 4400 or Grayson County East Line Road (literally the county line between Grayson and Fannin). There are some old concrete pipes at the northeast corner of the roads. Our driveway is 1/2 mile north on the left with a green mail box. If you come to Bartley Road to the north, turn south and go back. Our drive is the only one on the west of FC 4400. Cross the bridge and the drive to the dome home is about 600 feet west up the drive on the right.

Notes: I attended the dome builders worksop May 3-8, 1999. Monolithic constructed the shell of the dome, and I did the rest of the work over a 13-month period.
