Leoti, KansasKansas School District Touts Advantages of Monolithic Dome Schools

Like many small towns across America, Leoti, Kansas has struggled to find an affordable replacement for its aging elementary school. Voters rejected a proposed $8 million bond issue earlier this year, and another proposed $11.1 million bond issue failed four years ago, leaving school administrators searching for other options. They may have found it with a proposed design for a Monolithic Dome school that would replace the current R.B. Stewart Elementary School. Voters will go the polls on February 5, 2008 to vote on a $5 million bond issue to help build the dome school, which would double as a tornado shelter and would pay for itself over time in energy savings alone.
