Pensacola News Journal Columnist Touts Benefits of Hurricane Proof Dome Homes
The 2006 hurricane season turned out to be much quieter than weather forecasters had been predicting. Not a single hurricane made landfall on U.S. soil between June 1st and November 30th even though meteorologists had been expecting an active season after the string of hurricanes of 2005.
But while last year provided a reprieve, the threat clearly remains as columnist Carl Wernicke points out in his column published in the Pensacola News Journal. Florida residents, in particular, he points out have been “lulled into complacency” by quiet seasons like the one we just experienced and have opted to build on “the edge of almost every beach, the top of almost every island, and along the banks of almost every significant river.”
The question is: what will happen when the next powerful hurricane strikes? Wernicke has a prediction of his own: the cycle of destruction will continue until builders are ready to build hurricane-proof dome homes like Dome of a Home on Pensacola Beach.
