Small, Old Town Getting New Gymnasium

January 31, 2006

by Freda Parker

Saint Jo, whose history as a town dates back to 1849, occupies only 1.07 square miles of north central Texas, and has less than 1000 people living there.

But while it may be old and it may be small, Saint Jo certainly isn't behind the times. The St. Jo Independent School District (ISD) is getting a Monolithic Dome gymnasium, 126 feet in diameter and 38 feet in height.

According to information from Rick Moss, Saint Jo ISD superintendent and Judy Dennis, the ISD's business manager, their 315 elementary, junior and high school students will begin using the gym for basketball, volleyball and PE classes, at the start of the 2006-07 school year.

Dome Technology of Idaho Falls, Idaho has already begun the construction process. While fascinated Saint Jo residents watched, Dome Technology inflated the Airform on January 9, 2006.

Alden Porter of KDW, Inc. headquartered in Irving, Texas is construction manager for this project.
