Another Monolithic Dome in Oklahoma!February 27, 2006 by Freda Parker If it had not been for the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad, called Choctaw in its heyday, Hinton, Oklahoma may not now exist. Fortunately in 1902, Choctaw established the small town of Hinton, just 3.1 square miles in area, on a spur between Enid and Lawton. But despite its size, Hinton is progressive, and many of its 2200 residents know what they want: a Monolithic Dome multipurpose building, with a basketball floor, that just might attract sports events usually held at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City. J. Alden Porter of KDW, Inc. in Irving, Texas is Contract Administrator representing Hinton ISD on this project. He said the dome will be 148 feet in diameter, and its height of 50 feet will include a stemwall of 22 feet. Architect Rick Crandall of Crandall Design Group in Mesa, Arizona designed the facility, which will feature spectator seating going up to 17 feet, lockers under the seating area, a green room for receptions and a graceful lobby. Dome Technology of Idaho Falls, Idaho is constructing the dome. Related Links:
