Wayne Townsend on In-Floor Radiant HeatMarch 9, 2005 by Kris Garrison "One thing I love about the dome and using the in-floor radiant heat is that we don't have any cold spots or drafts." Wayne Townsend
They have spent the past three years living in their Monolithic Dome near Reno. This winter in particular has been exceptionally cold with temperatures dropping below freezing on a regular basis and record amounts of snow. It is recorded as the worst winter since 1916. Even with record temperatures, their electrical bill for December 2004 was just $230 for their 1650 square foot home. That's higher than a typical winter bill for a moderate winter in Reno. In the past their highest bill usually topped out at around $180.00. These affordable bills are due in part to the in-floor radiant heat system installed throughout the dome and the attached sunroom. The dome has over 1000 feet of tubing installed in the floor and the attached sunroom has 200 feet. Even with ceramic tile floors, the floor temperature stays at a comfortable 75 degrees. The thermal battery of the Monolithic Dome also contributes to the stable and comfortable temperatures within the dome. Related Links:
