Ray Ansel Starts 199th Monolithic Dome Project

November 29, 2005

This 1400-square-foot Monolithic Dome home in Flag Pond, Tennessee is earth-bermed -- the second underground dome that Ray has built.

"I'm just breaking ground on my 199th Monolithic Dome project," said Ray Ansel, owner of R&S Life Line Domes, LLC, headquartered in West Plains, Missouri on October 2, 2005.

Since first starting War Bonnet Construction in the 1980s and building 51 Monolithic Domes as homes, churches and shops in Alaska, Ray's contracting career has made exciting progress.

After 16 years in Alaska, in 2000, Ray took a sabbatical from pastoring Trinity Christian Center in Soldotna, left War Bonnet Construction to his son David and moved to Missouri, where he founded R&S Life Line Domes. As a licensed contractor in Arizona, Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee, Ray has completed Monolithic Dome projects in all of those states, plus others in Georgia and Washington.

On his website "www.lifelinedomes.com", Ray also maintains information on portable Monolithic Domes available in several sizes. "I'm getting a lot of calls about those right now," Ray said. "An architectural firm contacted me and asked me to send them all the stuff I've got on portables. They want me to set up a manufacturing facility in Louisiana. And if you're going to do portables you really do need a permanent site. You can't travel all over the United States just to do a $9,000 project."

In October 2004, Ray completed a 1400-square-foot Monolithic Dome home in Flag Pond, Tennessee. It's earth-bermed -- the second underground dome that Ray has built. "It's really unique," he said. "The owners are fans of J R R Tolkein and his characters in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, so we designed the front of this dome to resemble Bilbo Baggins' Hobbit hole.

But Ray's 199th project is much different. "It's a 5000-square-foot Monolithic Dome home, designed by Jim Kaslik and located in Seaman, Ohio. We're really excited about it," he concluded.
