Big D's BBQ -- First Monolithic TepeeDecember 10, 2004 by Kris Garrison Do Monolithic structures always have to be dome-shaped? According to Larry Byrne, MDI Designer, "A Tepee is actually a cylinder or cone shape, so the Monolithic construction method still works great for this type of structure." Conrad Martin of Richland, Mississippi witnessed the inflation of the very first Monolithic Tepee in Pocahontas, Mississippi. Because there is an Indian memorial and visitors center being planned for the area, Conrad wanted to incorporate the Indian theme into his restaurant expansion. Conrad owns Big D's BBQ, just 10 miles north of Jackson, Mississippi. It's quality, delicious BBQ and prime location along Hwy 49 North has contributed to its huge success. Since Martin bought the BBQ establishment, he has not had any indoor or outdoor seating for his customers. The 39' x 39' Tepee provides an Indian theme seating area for his customers. A local artistl incorporated the oval-shaped windows into the exterior painting and design on the Airform. South Industries did the construction.
