Internet and Phones Down at Monolithic Headquarters

A hole is dug and panic ensues

April 22, 2004

by Rebecca South

Yesterday, April 21, at around 3:00 PM I received a call on my cell from Dave South, Jr., who was in a mild panic. He asked me if I could get onto the internet and/or if I could call out on the office phones. I checked and discovered that I could do neither.

This is the worst-case scenario for us. This is the thing that keeps Dave up at night. Our internet was down and no one could reach us by phone.

When we discovered what happened to cause this, it made it even worse. One of the workers doing various and sundry projects at the new restaurant project about a mile from us had dug a hole for the mailbox and cut through the phone lines. So now, not only had the connection been severed, but it had been cut by someone working on one of our projects! Sabatoge!

As of 8:12 AM, we still have no access. Dave tells me the phone company's expert was out here around midnight last night peering into the hole. There are people working on it now. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
