World Youth International Owiti Children's Home -- Now Open

October 11, 2004

by Kris Garrison

Ralph Hoey, Director of World Youth International, has just returned to the states from Kenya where he attended the official opening of the WYI Owiti Children's Home.

Ralph expressed his excitement about the orphanage in a recent E-mail to Monolithic. He said, "The domes look excellent and are perfect for the hot climate of Kenya as they are built right on the equator. With the design, the air flows through the windows and doors and out the vent at the top of the dome. When it is really hot outside, the inside of the domes are cool."

Since its construction, WYI has had visits from two European organizations. They are very excited by what they have seen and want to introduce the dome concept into their communities. One of them has already shown TV footage back in Holland of the WYI home.

Ralph thinks the dome concept will spread quickly now. He said, "I expect it won't be long before we'll see quite a few domes springing up throughout Kenya."
