Monolithic.com Gets 10 Million Hits in SeptemberHurricanes Surge Interest in Monolithic Domesby David South Jr October 14, 2004 Hurricanes Charley, Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne brought more than wind and rain, they also brought a storm of interest in Monolithic Domes. With coverage from ABC, NBC, the Weather Channel, Discovery Channel, National Geographic, the Associated Press, and more, domes have received praise for their disaster resistance during these terrible storms. The Monolithic Dome Institute's website, monolithic.com, received a record number of visitors as evidence of the increased interest in Monolithic Domes. For example, in a normal month the webserver would serve 4 million hits (small pieces of information) during the 70,000 visits it receives. It would serve 500,000 pages of information and require 40 gigabytes of bandwidth to do the job. In the month of September, monolithic.com served over 10 million hits over 145,000 visits while serving over 1,000,000 pages and using over 100 gigabytes of bandwidth. Frankly, the server nearly reached the maximum amount of information it can serve at one time over our Internet connection. Although the large surge of interest has lessened, the number of inquiries remain very high as individuals and businesses are working on better ways to protect themselves during these storms.
