WALSENBURG, Colorado (April 12, 2004) One of most unusual homes in Walsenburg will be open for tours the first weekend in May as part of a charity fundraiser. The Monolithic Dome home, located on County Road 331, eight miles from Interstate 25, will be open from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on May 1st and 2nd. Voluntary donations will be accepted at the door to benefit The Friends of The Spanish Peaks Library.

Monolithic Domes are round, steel-reinforced concrete buildings known for their energy efficiency, durability and strength. They can cost as much as 50 percent less to heat and cool than traditional structures of the same size, and are strong enough to withstand high winds and earthquakes.

The three-bedroom, two-bath dome home in Walsenburg is situated on more than 40 rustic acres populated with wildlife and dotted with seasonal ponds and a variety of mature trees, including Ponderosa, Pinon, Aspen, White Pine and Gambel Oak. Several of the rooms in the 2,000 square-foot home have breath-taking views of the surrounding countryside.

The open house is designed to raise public awareness about the advantages of Monolithic Dome homes while also benefiting a worthy cause. For more information about the open house, contact June Tucker at 719-738-1201.

May 5, 2004 -- Update from June Tucker regarding the Fund Raising Event:

Even after 5 feet of snowfall in Colorado the week of the open house, the days of the event were beautiful and we greeted approximately 21 people at the home.

June Tucker said, "Many were very intersted and took lots of pictures. Had it not been for the snow, we would have had lots more people."
