Peggy Atwood Sings Praises for MonolithicFebruary 20, 2004 by Kris Garrison
In a recent radio interview on WFDU 89.1 FM radio with host of TableTalk, Bill Hahn, Peggy shared the story of her discovery of the Monolithic Dome building process. While living in Nashville, Tennessee her home was severely damaged by a tornado, so in search of something different, she purchased a log cabin in upper state New York. Some time after that purchase, the cabin was severely threatened by a forest fire. That's when she began researching alternative home building methods and came across Monolithic's website. Through study of Dome Living, American Ingenuity, and Monolithic's website, Peggy decided on a plan and took the next step. By researching the domebuilder website and checking references, she found a designer, Robert Bissett, and a builder, Walter Burnham. Even though initial planning went smoothly, the recent spell of extreme cold has slowed down the concrete spraying process. However, as of mid-February, the shell is near completion. One unique feature of the dome will be its interior timber framing. When Peggy had her land cleared prior to construction, trees from the property were taken to the mill and cut according to blueprint specs for interior framing. Peggy looks forward to the warmth and coziness of her dome home. She said, "I've been living in a trailer on the property, trying to save money while building and it has been very cold this winter. My home faces a stream in the south. My front entryway is designed like a bubble and offers a very cozy design element. I love the land it sits on. I love the potential for warmth in my new dome." Peggy anticipates a mid-summer 2004 completion date. For further information about Peggy Atwood and her music: Peggy Atwood |
