Dome Church Provides Shelter During Hurricane IsabelSeptember 18, 2003 by Kris Garrison The newly constructed New Song United Methodist Church in New Bern, North Carolina has become a refuge for the press as Hurricane Isabel rolls onto shore along the east coast. New Song has given permission for local TV stations to set up their cameras at the church if they need a safe place to ride out the storm while getting footage of the hurricane-force winds. It is not open to general public for use as a hurricane shelter because they do not have a back-up generator. Assignment editors have been notified that Monolithic Domes meet FEMA standards for near-absolute protection in hopes to raise awareness in the area about Monolithic Domes. Five other Monolithic Domes are in Isabel's path. As more news regarding Isabel's aftermath becomes available, we will inform our readers on how the domes weather the storm. Related Articles: |
