MDBA
Launched
The Monolithic Dome Builders Association (MDBA) held its first
meeting on February 22, 2001 during the Monolithic Dome Conference
in Ft. Worth. At this well attended gathering, the primary goal
of the organization "to unite people in the best interest,
development and growth of the Monolithic Dome construction industry"
was reiterated, and members elected the officers who will serve
this year. They are President Robert Clements, Vice President
Bob Schick, Secretary Mark Henrikson, Treasurer Glenn Young and
Appointed Executive Secretary Anne DeMoss.
The following day, members and their officers gathered again to
discuss bylaws and goals and to form committees. Committees formed
include Website, PR/Membership, Bylaws, Ethics, Certification/Code/Energy,
Interior Decoration, Financial/Appraisal, Products R&D, Legal,
Marketing, Architecture, and Landscaping.
In more recent interviews, each of the officers was asked about
his goals for the MDBA. President Clements said that he would
like to see the Monolithic Dome industry regulated. Such regulation
would bring the industry the acceptance and prestige it deserved
and make it far easier to get financing.
Glenn Young said that as Treasurer he wants to establish sound
accounting procedures, boost MDBA membership, and help obtain
and maintain a nonprofit status.
Vice
President Bob Schick said that his goal for MDBA is the creation
of a "great website" that will offer an unlimited amount
of support and resources from existing builders. The website will
also encourage vendors of new products, especially ones that compliment
the domes' energy efficiency, to access membership.
