David South Contacts Congressman Joe Barton

by Freda Parker

After listening to a televised broadcast with Congressman Joe Barton, from the Sixth District of Texas, discussing national energy conservation, Monolithic's President David B. South wrote to the Congressman, explaining the design and benefits of the Monolithic Dome.

"Congressman Barton serves on a very important committee -- the Committee on Energy and Commerce," South said. "In fact, he chairs the Subcommittee on Energy and Air Quality. So, to my way of thinking, he should know about Monolithic Domes."

In his letter, South explained the major benefits of the Monolithic Dome, such as near-absolute protection from natural disasters, energy conservation, strength and longevity. He then invited Barton and his staff to review our website.

In his reply, Barton thanked South for the contact and included information on H.R. 4 or the SAFE act, legislation passed by the House of Representatives in August 2001 that "is good for the environment and good for America. This bill takes a balanced approach and contains many measures to encourage conservation and renewable energy while allowing reasonable, environmentally responsible development of our abundant domestic natural resources."

Barton concluded by writing, "My staff has looked into the dome construction design you describe on your web site. My staff and I agree that it is a design system that has merit and should be considered as an important contribution to our nations energy efficient housing needs. As you can see from the preceding information, my bill provides encouragements in the form of tax credits and research funding for alternative energy and conservation...."

Because of his work and interest, Monolithic is inviting Congressman Barton to attend and participate in our 2002 Monolithic Dome Conference.
