Engineering: New Kid on the Block L. Brent Wright Consulting Structural Engineers is pleased to announce their emergence into the field of concrete dome engineering. The firm was established in late 1997 by Brent Wright, a PE, SE licensed in ten states with an extensive engineering and construction background. Formerly a principal in the 36 member Las Vegas firm of Mendenhall Smith Wright, Brent has completed some outstanding projects including the 1149 ft. tall Stratosphere Tower on the Las Vegas Strip and the five acre Grand Slam Canyon indoor theme park. He has also provided structural engineering for the Silver Legacy Casino dome in Reno and the Pacific Science Center dome in Seattle, both constructed of composite materials
Brent completed a Master's Degree at Brigham Young University under renowned dome engineer Arnold Wilson, and has always possessed an interest in dome engineering. Consequently, when opportunity arose to hire Jason South, an engineer with specific dome engineering and construction experience, he jumped at the chance. Jason also completed a Masters degree at BYU under Dr. Wilson and has had two years of intensive dome engineering and design experience. He also served as construction superintendent with Dome Technology for such projects such as Kennecott Copper's Concentrate Storage in Salt Lake City and Song Yong's 30,000 ton cement storage facility in Mokpo, Korea.
Both Brent and Jason believe that their combined talents will be a great benefit to dome customers and will further their commitment to accomplish the firm's mission, which is, ".to provide you with engineering solutions that are sound, meet your needs, and save you money. We continually seek for improvement in our products and services, and pledge to be honest and fair in all our dealings."

Heber/Overgaard School District Heber and Overgaard, two Arizona towns sharing a school district, plan to open their new Monolithic Dome facility for the start of the 1998 Fall semester. This Kindergarten to Grade 4 facility consists of two domes with a connector in between. The larger, two-story dome (160' diameter) will house classrooms and offices; The smaller dome (80' diameter) - called a cafetorium - will include cafeteria, auditorium and kitchen.

Agrium International
San Nicholas, Argentina

Dome Technology In just six months, Dome Technology successfully completed a three-dome project with a connecting mixing/load-out building. Agrium International in San Nicholas, Argentina, uses the Monolithic Domes (150' X 75'; 145' X 73'; 132' X 66') to store imported fertilizers that are then distributed throughout Argentina.
President Barry South announced a new contract Dome Technology secured from the United Arab Emirates and with it, its newest challenge: the largest cement clinker storage building in the world. With a diameter of 200' and height of 130', the dome will hold more than 115,000 tons of cement clinker, an intermediate product in the cement production process. We've built domes this wide before, South said, but this one will be 20 feet higher than the highest [we have] yet completed.
In Ventspils, Latvia, 80 miles east of Riga on the Baltic Sea, Dome Technology, in 1998 has begun constructing four Monolithic Domes as an expansion of a fertilizer export terminal for Lenmorniiproekt, a large Russian engineering firm.

Interview with David B. South
Interviewing David

Home and Garden TV This past June, a five-person crew from Home and Garden TV filmed the Eye of the Storm, a futuristic Monolithic Dome home, whose Airform was designed and manufactured by Monolithic Constructors, Inc. (see Roundup Journal, Winter 1998, Volume 11, Number 1), for one of their Dream Builders segments, scheduled to air in September on cable television. The segment will include interviews with George Paul of Omnishell, Inc. who designed and built the structure, various members of the Paul family who make this dome their home, and David South as an expert on Monolithic Domes. Check your local listings or their web site (www.hgtv.com) for show times.

Native American Grant School Association John Ellingson, representing Dome Technology, Inc. and the Monolithic Dome Institute, Inc., addressed approximately forty school administrators at the Native American Grant School Association in Laughlin, Nevada, this past June. Ellingson said that attendees were most interested in learning about the flexibility, energy-efficiency and cost-effectiveness of Monolithic Domes.

David Speaks at Construction Specification Institute In May, David South, president of Monolithic Dome Institute, spoke at a luncheon meeting of the Construction Specifications Institute, a national organization of architects, engineers and salespersons. David's one-hour presentation focused on the versatility and practicality of Monolithic Domes, as well as their cost-effectiveness, low energy consumption, durability and security.
